CITIES - sculptures and land art

Heemskerk

For the Dutch city of Heemskerk Lucien den Arend made the sculpture rotonde which is the Dutch word for roundabout. in 1998 The city commissioned him to make a proposal for this location. The traffic circulates around the spot, giving den Arend an extra incentive to make a work which would appear to be different from the different angles of approach. Thus it forms transition between an ellipse and an equilateral triangle.
