ENVIRONMENTS AND LAND ART PROJECTS

Walburg Project
Zwijndrecht Holland

Walburg Land Art, The Netherlands.

1971|1973 earth, asphalt, meandering dike, bronze, high-tension pylon and pollard willows - 136x50x19m - Zwijndrecht, Holland

On the top of the asphalt spheroid form rests a bronze artifact - a sculpture acting as a focal point of the land Art Project. At that time I reasoned that this sculpture represented the human element. The high tension pylon, the first industrial element which had been introduced to this cultivated landscape, was the beginning for me. This exact location years before - not knowing I would later select it as the location for one of my first Land Art Projects. I included the pylon in my Land Art project and complemented is verticality by working with the horizontal surroundings.

After some years the electric company removed the power lines and all the pylons except this one.
