URBAN LAND ART - a concept for a park in Finland
Land Art in the urban environment

distilling my ideas
Somehow, distilling my ideas, I got to the point where a down-to-earth circle segment seemed achieve what I had set as my goal. A geometrical- elementary gesture would complement the organically evolved surroundings. At the time I did not consider an elliptical one, parabolic or whatever - observation from the ground would always undergo a perspective correction, or be it distortion. From the sky aerial surveying instruments would in that case be needed to discern between these possible forms; my point was to create an elementary counterpart for the existing situation - not making a theoretical geometrical statement.
In the second sketch curved, concrete retaining walls accentuate a curvilinear movement into the water and suggest enclosing a boundless space. - embracing the whole north in their arms. On Midsummer (Juhannus) night the concave contour would grasp the last and - less than three hours later- the first rays of the setting and rising sun. >>
