STUDIOS

Lucien den Arend working on the plaster model for a bronze sculpture for the Amsterdam-North Police Station
The late seventies - Nieuwstraat 9-11 Zwijndrecht studio.

Here I am working on the plaster model for Brenda, a bronze sculpture for Amsterdam. The contours are defined by a PVC electricity pipe. Before I started making the model a friend asked me what the sculpture was going to look like; as we were remodeling the house and the pipes were lying in the studio, I connected a few of them, held the ends together in a parallel fashion and let gravity play with the shape. So all I needed to do is fixate this shape. Serendipitously I discovered the perhaps only suitable solution for getting this natural curve.
