Ede my site specific sculptures revisited (Lucien den Arend)
Aerial roots take time to develop.
The bald cypress' 'knees' are growing much faster than I had anticipated. The trees sense their need for oxygen surrounded by 360° of water and send their roots higher up. I knew this would happen, but it was a surprise to see them so soon.
When site specific art makes use of natural evolution and growth, as in this case the swamp cypress trees, anticipating the outcome increases to necessitate the experience you acquire in the years of working with living material.
