Land art and site specific sculpture - land art uses the environment and its scale as its material. Concrete art is expressed in material itself with which the artist introduces her non-representational objective. Public art can be viewed and accessed by observers.

Highway art - art in the road environment

Present day concrete noise barriers (seen from road level).
The A15 where it passes by the city of Tiel nowadays.

In 1983 the National Highway Administration of the Netherlands invited three artists to develop ideas about integrating art in the road environment. Highway A15 runs from west to east across the Netherlands - from the North Sea to almost the German border. Maybe the visual impact of art would have given this highway environment more character, where there are now concrete walls with graffiti - in 1983 I proposed a meandering mound along this particular stretch which would serve as a future noise barrier, while it was actually a grand four kilometers long earthwork.
