Highway art - art in the road environment

highway A15 ripples in the Betuwe

Land art as a point of reference.
Art and the A15 - ripples and grooves along the highway.

Art makes one think. It either refers to something - intentionally or unintentionally - or it leaves it up to the onlooker to decide for herself. We have all seen earthen mounds after dumpers have left mounds of sand, gravel or earth - usually in logical patterns because that is a more efficient way of doing it. I have often thought of land art made in this way. In 1973 I had made a proposal for similar earthen shapes in the urban area of The Hague.
