PROPOSALS FOR SCULPTURES, ENVIRONMENTS AND LAND ART PROJECTS - Proposal for an urban land art project in Den Haag , Holland - 1973.

earth waves

Proposal for an urban land art project in Den Haag , Holland - 1973.
parallel waves - 1973 - An environmental- urban land art project, a proposal for the Provinciehuis (the Provincial Administration Building) in The Hague, the Netherlands. The entire sketch for the Den Haag Earthwork, parallel waves

One of the two proposals for an urban earth work comprised of the gardens around the Provincial Administration Building for the Province of South-Holland (Zuid-Holland).

Instead of conventional gardens around the Provinciehuis, I proposed to treat them as one coherent, grand gesture. Twelve meter long earthen waves with an amplitude of one meter were to be made in either a concentric system or in a parallel constellation.

In 1998 the original building with the additions from the seventies had been demolished and the new building was completed. The paper, De Binnenstadskrant spoke of the undulating facades: “Provinciehuis golvend langs het Malieveld” (“Provinciehuis situated along the Malieveld like a wave”).

De Binnenstadskrant, May 1, 1998, p. 1
