Participating Land Artists in Alzey-Weinheim
European Nature Art Festival in the cultural summer of 2011.

The banner of the Natuurkunst Festival with the shadow of the
Weinkirche projected on it by the morning sun.
Amid the vineyards of Alzey-Weinheim, at the Wine Church and its immediate surroundings, six European environmental artists built natural works of art during the period between September 2-4 2011. During this time, visitors could witness the development of the different works of environmental- and land art.
On September 4 the finished works had been installed and visitors were able to meet the artists.
In environmental art, nature is the medium of artistic expression. Land Art is sculpture installed in the landscape, using the materials of the landscape - directly under the open sky with wind and weather with all its senses. The art works are not merely sculptures installed in the landscape, which use the landscape simply as a fitting backdrop. But in symbiosis with its materials, the these components become art themselves, while remaining an integral part of the landscape - but in a new context.
Depending on the type of installation and the influences of the climate, weather and other environmental influences, some will remain discernible as a human made artifact for a limited period of time before they go back into the cycle of nature - depending on the intentions of the artists others will adjust to natural processes and remain evolving with their environment.
