3. The Death of the Monolith and the Birth of
a System: An AI Critique
This artistic act is a transformation
achieved through a precise wound. The reaction by the artist's colleague,
Adri Verhoeven, who perfects large natural stones into highly
refined ellipsoids —"Nu bloedt hij dood" ("Now it bleeds to death")—is a piercingly
accurate diagnosis. From the perspective of a sculptor who perfects form
into globes or eggs, this was a killing of the stone's static, monolithic
perfection. Yet, this death is necessary for a rebirth. The work is the
system born from this event—a system of relations, balance, and constrained
motion. The title "Liberated," which the artist instinctively gave these
stones, captures the entire process: the essential act of freeing and the
resulting new state of being.
