The stainless steel focal points have been translated to cone shaped
markers. They are 125cm tall and have a 20mm diameter truncated top.
When the willows will have reached a satisfactory thickness I will
whitewash the trunks from the ground up to 125cm height - the same as
that of the focal points.
While the willow are maturing I
will gradually clear the area within the elliptical space,
distinguishing it from the surrounding natural area. In Terneuzen the
idea was quite opposite to the situation here: it was in the middle of
the urban space of the town. The willows surrounded a green "room"
within urban public space - a sort of green antechamber before entering
the unemployment office building. Here we are in the middle of the
forests, and the elliptical space differentiates the inner from the
outer space.
In Netherlands the cultivated, coppiced willows evoke the environment of agricultural and more natural areas. Here in the green space the ellipse will emphasize the human touch: the constructed ellipse and placement of the willows, their coppices, the whitewashed trunks, the technical stainless steel artefacts.
