gothic II, Noordpark

this version was made in 1996 as a loan to the Drecht Banks Open Air Museum in Zwijndrecht Holland - the 1981 version (next page) is on loan to the Kajaani Finland - during the fifteen years that had passed between the first version of gothic II and this one, den Arend became more interested in the construction of a sculpture itself - he therefore accentuated the contours by painting them red - also, he left the steel as it came from the factory, leaving it for time to do its job of giving it the patina of oxidized steel - this version was also mirrored to have it open up with a view of Dordrecht across the Noord River (when viewing the sculpture in the other direction
