Highway art - art in the road environment

highway A15 earthen noise barrier near Tiel

Land art as earthen noise barriers.
The A15 where it passes by the city of Tiel - the meanders moving towards and from the highway.

The earthen meander seen from the eye-level of the people in a car. When art introduces itself to the highway environment, it should have taken into account that the spectators are moving - driving in vehicles with a speed of around one hundred kilometers an hour. There is no time for studying detail. In the situation above the spectators in a car will encounter this piece of land art for only 2.4 minutes - on the left they see mainly agricultural area (nowadays the Betuwe Railroad with its own curved concrete noise barriers) and on the opposite side the meander seems to be constantly approaching an retreating from the road.
