Land art and site specific sculpture in the urban setting. Environmental sculpture is an art form which uses the environment as its material. Concrete art is, like any art form, human made and is therefore geometric in essence. Public art is art which can be viewed and accessed by the public.

urban oasis - 1989/1993 - environmental sculpture with swamp cypresses and retaining walls, center De Rietkampen, Ede NL

In De Rietkampen, a new area in the city of Ede I was asked to submit a proposal for the incorporation of public art around a reservoir in the center of a new section of the town, De Rietkampen. The pond was originally projected as a triangle. I changed it to a rectangle in order to symbolize the merging of the two axial directions of De Rietkampen with a row of Swamp Cypresses continuing from their position on the shore of the canal into the water, where they grow exceptionally well. In time they will be standing in the middle of the water with their air roots - a view which can be found in the Everglades.
