pink ribbon - Spijkenisse (near Rotterdam), the Netherlands - 2010

"In October 2010 the PINK RIBBON (size 2400x550x697cm) was created by the municipality of Spijkenisse in the Netherlands for the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The artist, Lucien den Arend gave his full cooperation. And the sculpture will permanently remain pink.

The idea for the world's largest pink ribbon was launched by Francis Stapel, a resident of Spijkenisse. She contacted the municipality, which in turn contacted the sculptor Lucien den Arend. He was as enthusiastic about the idea as the town of Spijkenisse was. In October, the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the sculpture was painted pink. The sculptor came to the Netherlands from his home in Finland to view the sculpture, and was delighted."
