1984|1990 dike section, bridge and parallel rows of poplar trees - proposals for artistic details for Highway S47 (now N215) around Dirksland and Middelharnis, Provincial Department of Construction of the Province of Zuid-Holland NL - the Onwaardse Dike is a historic element in the cultural landscape around Dirksland - the functional necessity of it has been replaced by a visual one - just digging through it and rounding off the ends would have ignored its importance, as it would have lost its justification for being there - raising the S47 (now N215) would certainly have eradicated its subtle silhouette.
