SCULPTURES UNDER CONSTRUCTION - installing weatherproof sculpture

In December 1980 I received a commission from the city of Utrecht to execute a two part weatherproof steel sculpture according to my initial design. I ordered the material and found a shipbuilding company in Rotterdam-Waalhaven which could roll the 20 mm thick steel sheets and assemble the three parts each. They could have made each element from one piece, but it was essential for me that each piece should consist of two flat- half-circular elements and a quarter cylinder - with the weld to remain visible.
Here I am marking the locations where the three anchors were to be attached, which were to be cast into the concrete base slab.
