late seventies - pencil on paper - 50x65cm

This was a preliminary study for a sculptural space consisting of two equal shells of concrete - the curvilinear space between them to be transparent - the entrance from the house on the left.

In this period Lucien den Arend discussed with Truus Schröder-Schräder about the method she and Gerrit Rieveld used to present an elevation of her new Utrecht house with an existing older building as backdrop, so that it seemed like there was a traditional roof on their proposed building. But the Zwijndrecht authorities did not fall for this trick and another, more conventional proposal was to be made.
