URBAN LAND ART - a concept for a park in Finland

Land Art in the urban environment

URBAN LAND ART - a concept sketches for a land fill
A triangular area touches the shoreline three times - an urban land art project in Kajaani, Finland.

citified nature

For me Suvantopuisto needed to become a park which shows that we are in an urban space. "Metropolis" is certainly an exaggerated title for a large town like Kajaani. But why not differentiate itself from the abundant surrounding nature! This city is worthy of a metropolitan park. It would strengthen any urban quality which is present in this almost half a millennium old city.

The above sketch shows the existing organic shoreline. An explicit geometric form would give room for grand gestures. By giving the new park the shape of a triangle, the straight shorter sides would contrast and complement the organic existing shoreline. The long side of the triangle would span the one kilometer distance between the limits of the reserved area for the Suvantopuisto annex.

But there are more options to be examined. >>
