Der Ring Alzey-Weinheim

constructing Land Art "Der Ring" in Alzey-Weinheim, Germany.
A sloping rock - the keystone - in the center of the Hornbeam ring in Alzey-Weinheim.

After constructing the circle from the iron rod, I felt the need for a central element - such as some historical artifact or old stone. Karl Mann, one of the organizers of the four day Land Art symposium suggested I use the stone from the east side of the Wine Church (die Weinkirche). This turned out to be the perfect solution. Now it acts as an altar or throne in the center of the space enclosed by the ring of Ironwood trees and could in fact have been the throne of the father, Wotan, of the Rhinemaidens Woglinde, Wellgunde and Floßhilde.
