Lucien den Arend
the SCULPTOR
The sculptor Lucien den Arend has lived and
worked as a sculptor in the United States, The
Netherlands and in Finland. He is now setting up
a
sculpture park - Penttilä Open Air Museum (POAM).
His sculptures will be installed in the fields
and forest around his house and
studio in
Kangasniemi, Finland.
Nearby, in the municipality of Haukivuori he is
setting up an international sculpture park FOAM
(Finnish Open Air Museum) with sculptures by
sculptors from around the world. In the summer
of 2005 the first symposium took place -
REDUCTIVE ABSTRACTION Less is more again.
Six sculptors from Turkey, Bulgaria, the United
States, Belgium and Holland participated and
made sculptures which are now presented on the
grounds of FOAM and
Saksala ArtRadius Art Center.
In the early seventies the sculptor became a
member of the
Dutch Sculptors' Association and was asked
to join the board. He was twice secretary and
president of the association for about fifteen
years, and a member of the board for a total of
twenty two years.
In 2003 he and his family moved to Finland where
he now has a studio next to his home in the
middle of the vast forests of the Lake District.
He is now a member of the
Finnish Association of Sculptors. Around his
home, an old manor, his sculptures are installed
- in what used to be its
gardens.
