CITIES - sculptures and land art

Malus circle

Zwijndrecht Holland - sculptures (site specific and public sculpture) in cities in Europe and America by Lucien den Arend - Walburg Project - discoid form - Gemini Tango - Volgerlanden

1973 - Malus circle - Malus - Ø 300cm - Winkelcentrum-Noord - Zwijndrecht NL

Next to the Walburg Project, also in the Dutch town of Zwijndrecht, Malus circle is my oldest environmental work - now called urban land art - still existing.

The idea was that people in the shopping mall could walk in between the trees and, for a short while, be in the interior of the circle. When I proposed this environmental sculpture there were not supposed to be bushes there. Some of the apple trees have disappeared and not been replanted.
