Land art and site specific sculpture - land art uses the environment and its scale as its material. Concrete art is expressed in material itself with which the artist introduces her non-representational objective. Public art can be viewed and accessed by observers.

CITIES - sculptures and land art

Alzey-Weinheim

"Der Ring" a Land Art project in Alzey-Weinheim, Germany.
Der Ring - 2011 - 64 Carpinus Betula trees (also Hornbeam or Ironwood) - diameter 20 m (trees' estimated size in the year 2111).

Der Ring is an enclosed space surrounded by 64 Ironwood or Hornbeam (Carpinus Betula) trees. In the center of the ring is a large natural rock which functions a a focal point. It is the purported throne of Wotan who may have been the father of the Rhinemaidens, Woglind, Wellgundeeandand Floßhilde.

Ironwood can reach an age of hundreds of years. During this period the interior space will be accessible; but when the diameters of the trunks begin to close the spaces between the individual trees, the inner are will slowly close.

In Alzey-Weinheim during the annual Europäisches Naturkunst Festival the 2011 Land Art symposium was organized. Der Ring has been realized during the 2011 symposium near the Weinkirche.
