Merwelanden Symposium: Griend-cultuur

In 1991, the Merwelanden nature reserve in Dordrecht hosted the second installment of a collaborative sculpture symposium between Bulgarian and Dutch artists, following its inaugural edition in Varna, Bulgaria, a year prior. Titled Griend-cultuur (Osier Culture), the project drew inspiration from the tidal wetlands’ unique ecology and traditions of working with willow—a material deeply rooted in the region’s history.
