CITIES - sculptures and land art

Dordrecht|Merwelanden

For my intervention, I sought to juxtapose this inherent randomness with deliberate structure. By overlaying a geometric grid of long willow branches across the scattered growth, I introduced a visual counterpoint—a human-imposed order that harmonized with, yet contrasted, the wildness of the osier bed. To amplify the graphic quality of the grid, I peeled the tops of the willow branches, exposing their pale inner wood. This striation not only emphasized the linear framework but also created a striking visual rhythm against the muted tones of the wetland. Below the stripped sections, the branches were left intact to bud and regenerate, ensuring the willows’ survival while symbolizing the tension between control and organic growth.
