CITIES - sculptures and land art

Rotterdam - Groot IJsselmonde

Infinity can be captured.
the city Rotterdam - Groot IJsselmonde Holland - sculptures (site specific and public sculpture) in cities in Europe and America by Lucien den Arend - site specific constructions in Rotterdam - a Zen environmental work
1973-75 - infinity and earthscape - stainless steel, rocks, concrete and water, Rotterdam NL

Two other Dutch sculptors, Teun Jacob and Ian Pieters, (who had been my teacher at the now Willen de Koning Art School in Rotterdam) were also asked to make proposals for this patio. Both submitted sculptural proposals. I immediately was attracted to the space as a vertical perforation through the building, making what is underneath visible. And in my first impression I first of all sketched a concept of the earth's crust viewed through the hole through the building and its floor. This would remain the basis of my further work for this project.
