CITIES - sculptures and land art
Rotterdam - Groot IJsselmonde
This was during the time of the moon landings. Its barren surface which we were seeing on images that were relayed to earth provoked my fantasies. Realizing that sustainable plantings in this inner space were going to be difficult to keep alive, I decided to symbolize the crust of the earth by giving it the appearance of that which we were seeing of the moon. Call it land art or moon art, I introduced a surface devoid of plants, but furnished it with stones found in parts of the Netherlands where they had been deposited by the land ice which had brought them from Scandinavia during the ice age.
