Weymouth RR

environmental thoughts

A new road through a traditional English rural landscape presents a number of problems which can be solved responsibly. Approaching this from an artist's point of view will give unexpected results.

Barendrecht roundabout acts as a spindle

Site specific, concret Spiral sculpture at a roundabout in Barendrecht, The Netherlands.

The sculpture on this roundabout was done together with a colleague, Hennie Monshouwer. She lives in the Dutch town of Barendrecht and asked me to cooperate on and realise a concrete sculpture based on a paper cone. It became a combination of this basic shape and a clockwise spiral motion around the roundabout. Coming from a distance the motorist sees a cone shape which acts as a spindle for the traffic encircling the roundabout.
