construction of steel sculpture near Rotterdam for the arch over the road at Rhoon, Albrandswaard in Holland
poort van Rhoon - 2010 - construction of a monumental steel sculpture for Rhoon, Albrandswaard in Holland

During next winter of 2009 I was invited to meet with the alderman and the town secretary. They proposed a new location of the new sports center of Albrandswaard, situated on the Schroeder van der Kolklaan - located a few hundred meters from the original site for the sculpture seventeen years earlier.

Here the sports center is separated from the parallel streets and bicycle path and the urban area by a natural wetlands park with waterways and willow trees.

After the willow trees have grown in the area dividing the access streets (Schroeder van der Kolklaan and Linnaeusstraat) and the bicycle route, the sculpture will be a surprising introduction to the island-park in the central elliptical area - surrounded by sports fields. Hidden behind the foliage of the trees - and between the vertical masts of the street lights and the trunks of the trees, the vertical legs of the sculpture will be inconspicuous until one crosses one of the two footbridges into the sports park.
