SCULPTURES UNDER CONSTRUCTION

construction of steel sculpture in Rotterdam for the arch over the road at Rhoon, Albrandswaard in Holland
poort van Rhoon - 2008 - preparation for the construction of the monumental steel sculpture for Rhoon, Albrandswaard in Holland - coating the segments.

The diameter of these pipes is fifty centimeters. This posed some problem as to the bending. But some twenty kilometers from my studio there was a facility where they did mandrel bending. Mandrel bending uses a metal shaft, or mandrel, fitted inside the steel tube or pipe. As the mandrel moves, it bends the metal around the appropriate sized die to form the radius, which in this case it twelve and a half meters.
