ARCHITECTURAL SCULPTURES and PROJECTS
Grote Kerk tower project

English    Nederlands

The wings of the Cross of Andreas resemble the casques or gold squares.
1987-88 Grote Kerk tower project, Dordrecht NL.

The cantilevering arms of the Andreas Cross act as the serif on a font to direct the eye to the culmination point of the upward movement of the tower. They correct the diffusion of the top of the tower, which for over four hundred years has been leading the eye upwards to an anticlimax. It actually now looks as if its top has been broken off, and some remnants are still sticking out.
