The random situation of the willow stubs evolved from a practical perpetuation of the osier, I sought for contrast and superimposed a grid of long willows which give a temporary visual stability to the scene. The tops of the willows were peeled to give them a more graphic quality, at the same time emphasizing their structure. They were to bud below this section.
