LAND ART - public lecture at zlgevents courtyard - Kuala Lumpur x-ing Volgerlanden - plan, H.I. Ambacht/ Zwijndrecht Holland

During the early nineties the power lines were removed and I was able to save the main part of the pylon. In the second half the nineties planners decided to invite me to make a proposal for the new situation of which the Walburg project would be a part.

A quarter of a century earlier the boundary was very evident. A drainage ditch, parallel to the axis of the meandering dike, was a clear edge of the area. In the new Volgerlanden a large body of water was needed to collect the surface water before it is displaced along a network of drainage ditches to eventually be pumped over the dikes which protect Holland from the sea.

It seemed very logical to me to have this body of water reach up to the foot of the meandering dike - going a step further in the symbolic, added meaning of this low-land element. I projected a mark, in the shape of an 'X' in the large reservoir.  For its orientation I used the axis of the former high-tension power lines.
