Ede my site specific sculptures revisited (Lucien den Arend)
In land art, usually nature provides color; materials are usually natural - at least, that's what has been the case since the late sixties when artists began using the characteristics of a site and the materials which are present there. But, like all art, land art evolves. I like to use color in my work - and by carefully selecting natural materials, color is an essential facet. Of course, in this situation I chose the Bald Cypress trees for their being able to grow in the water. And since most of Holland consists of only earth and water, I like to introduce elements which will function there, and at the same time evoke memories of other places.
