Red & Sculptures
During the end of the eighties I received a commission from the Province of Zuid-Holland to implement art in the road environment between Middelharnis and Dirksland. I asked If I could design this bridge which was to be built. At that time it was a standard procedure to apply a coating from which graffiti could be easily removed. That was my chance to suggest not doing that in one gray, concrete-like color but differentiating the perpendicular concrete planes from which I assembled the totality of the constructions, with their own colors. In accordance with the De Stijl movement I decided to apply white, black and two grays along with red, yellow and blue - adding my own contribution, a fourth primary color of the additive color system: green.
