Linear Sculpture - Sculpture in Lines
In 1969 I had my first chance to make an urban land art project, incorporating various elements from our environment and artifacts such as three linear elements evoking ducts which bridge the undulating terrain below them.

In 1969 my first opportunity arose to make an urban land art project, incorporating various elements from our environment and artifacts such as three linear elements evoking ducts which bridge the undulating earth below them. The linear structure of this garden was dictated by the perpendicular planes and subdivisions of the surrounding architecture by Dirk Hol, who was thecity architect of the of Dordrecht. The shapes of the various elements comprising this environment were defined by surrounding lines in the architecture. The natural stone curbstones had lined a street in the historic center of Dordrecht. I used them to delineate the forms of the grassy surfaces in front of three linden trees with white washed stems, echoing the three pipes.
