Linear Sculpture - Sculpture in Lines

I utilized this curbstone line, on which to carve my signature. At the time - 1971-72 - I thought it was something else to sign my work in the landscape.

Curb forms a diagonal line in my first land art project.
Land art - signed on the line.

In those days I called my work environmental sculpture and didn't realize that this type of work would one day be described as land art. maybe this line was in a certain sense a sculptor's line. Also during the early seventies Robert long was concentrating on lines in the landscape - and on a much larger scale I must say.
