LAND ART

land art project Urban Oasis

Dutch urban LAND ART in Ede - arched footbridge - 'Urban Oasis' - Bald Cypress trees (Taxodium Distichum), water, concrete and color.

So plant containers and a yellow trash can were added to the scene by the public works department. I actually wanted the contrast between the quay, void of any urban decorations and furniture, and the natural scene across the water. Here, in the foreground, the aerial roots can be seen. Some day these will help support the trees, which will be standing independently in the water.

There used to be a creek in these sandy and higher parts of the country. After heavy rains the water would flow for miles to a river. When the city of Ede built this part of the town, in the nineties, this river was made into a small canal, ending in a larger reservoir, which I was able to work with and change its form, add the trees and decide how the infrastructure should be organized.
