LAND ART

land art project Urban Oasis

Dutch urban LAND ART in Ede - arched footbridge - 'Urban Oasis' - Bald Cypress trees (Taxodium Distichum), water, concrete and color.

From the surrounding urban area one looks down into the oasis -the land art project. I gave the encompassing structural elements the primary colors red and yellow, together with dark gray. The quay can be approached from the steel construction balcony on the right, or from the hidden natural stone (ashlar) stairs behind the vermillion wall at the end. In this way it is possible for the pedestrian to take an alternative route in order to experience the land art project from inside.

I planned a quay devoid of decorations - only two elementary benches, from which one can undergo the exuberance of the Swamp Cypress trees - the natural element as a warm contrast for the cool geometry from where they are observed. Such intentions are not always felt by the department heads who furnish the public spaces in a town. So plant containers and a yellow trash can were added to the scene. In my view, the pedestrians and the ducks should be the only temporary 'decoration'.

The red is RAL 2002, a vermillion-like color, which is a natural contrast with the summer color of the Swamp Cypress trees and the green slopes. In the autumn this color harmonizes with the orange-brown foliage of the Swamp Cypresses.
