Jozef Israëls (1824-1911)

Jozef Israels (1824-1911) oil paint on oak panel.
woman pulling a barge (study) Jozef Israëls (1824 - 1911) - oil paint on paper marouflé to oak panel - 330x210mm

This little painting was bought by me at an auction in Dordrecht, The Netherlands during the late sixties. From my old teacher at the art academy I learned that Jozef Israëls had the habit of using everything at hand to move the paint around and create the effects he was after - even with his cigar butt.
