CITIES - sculptures and land art

Terneuzen

Terneuzen - Zeeuws Vlaanderen NL - his site specific sculptures ordered for the city of Terneuzen in Zeeland
pollarded willows - willows (Salix Alba) - GAB Terneuzen NL

After the willows have been pollarded the first times the typical knot appears from where new branches grow again every time. These cultivated trees are typical for the Dutch rural landscape. By using them in my environmental and land art works the serve as a visual reminder of the instances where they are a part of the rural landscape in much the same way as a painter depicts them. Only in my case it is not the depicted scene which stimulates the imagination, but the object itself which, contrary to a painting appears unexpectedly.
