CITIES - sculptures and land art

Terneuzen

Terneuzen - Zeeuws Vlaanderen NL - his site specific sculptures ordered for the city of Terneuzen in Zeeland
witte wieven - pollard willows ellipse - 1980|1984 - willows (Salix Alba) - GAB Terneuzen NL

The first summer the new branches grew two meters. Every three years the trees are to be pollarded in order to achieve the typical knotted shape.

During the preparations I was asked whether I would like to design the sign "arbeidsbureau" signifying the function of the building. I accepted because it was a chance to broaden my project and connect to  the constructivism movement of the beginning of the century, in which workers were an important element. This being an employment office was a good reason for me to accept the challenge. The placement of the willow trees had been geometrically constructed by me.
