CITIES - sculptures and land art

Rotterdam
Plantage Building

The original steel and glass structure of the stairwell was being transformed into an aluminum one. The axis (column) of the stairwell was an off-white as were most of the painted surfaces in the interior. The tiling was still original, sandy colors on the ground floor and black upwards.

Lucien den Arend decided to evoke the colors of the period which had inspired the architecture of the Plantage Building.

Blue was used by the sculptor to give a strong accent to the vertical columns, which together suggested a bisected oval shape.
