CITIES - sculptures and land art

Rotterdam - Groot IJsselmonde

The view from the surrounding spaces is in great contrast with the activities which are performed there. Suspects being taken into this office must wonder what kind of police station they have been brought to. Their exercise yard is quite different.
As can be seen in these photographs, the reflections in the twelve windows surrounding the space were part of my plan and it was my intention to see the reflected segments repeat along the circumference of the enclosed space; they sort of animate the revolving movement. I proposed to use mirrored glass, but that was not possible - the officer in charge needs to be able to keep an eye on everything. But, even with plain glass, the reflection has the effect I had in mind.
