CITIES - sculptures and land art
Papendrecht
From the old city gates of Dordrecht the river landscape still reminds us of the way it must have looked hundreds of years ago. The red sculpture has now been officially loaned by the city of Zwijndrecht to its neighbor Papendrecht, to feature in the next phase of the OPAM Sculpture Park which one day will cover a total of more than forty kilometers of river banks in the Drecht Cities area.

To the right of this picture the city of Papendrecht is slowly but surely closing down this historic Dutch landscape - letting uncivilized project developers build their money making high rise apartment buildings. On the other side of the river it was possible to put a (temporary?) halt to the salivating project developers, who see such beauty in terms of hard cash. This is one of the reasons I chose this site to propose and build an international sculpture park in the early nineties. With support of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands this growing sculpture park was realized - OPAM Drechtoevers Beeldenpark (OPen Air Museum Drecht Banks Sculpture Park)
