The Art of Creative Pruning
The Art of Pruning (Timber Press 2011): a look at imaginative, creative and funky pruning, in all shapes and sizes, all over the world, with technical instructions and illustrations.
When Jake approached me a year or two ago, I hoped that his book would not turn out to be about the pruning shrubs in the shape of chickens, lollipops and other cliché garden props. I studied his website, which gave me confidence, and decided to participate. After a long period of waiting, the book was published and Jake sent me a copy. And I must say that this book exceeds my expectations. It is not an art historical book, nor is is a commonplace gardening book. Paging through the publication, it becomes evident that the writer has a background in sculpture. His choice of material is surprising. To people who visit my site I can say that this is certainly not a book for the owners of an average garden; it is for less conventional people with a broader view and a certain amount of bravour.
