Land art and site specific sculpture in the urban setting. Environmental sculpture is an art form which uses the environment as its material. Concrete art is, like any art form, human made and is therefore geometric in essence. Public art is art which can be viewed and accessed by the public.

LAND ART

land art project Urban Oasis

LAND ART in Ede - autumn colors of the Bald Cypress trees (Taxodium Distichum), water, concrete and color.

Taxodium Distichum (Swamp Cypress- or Baldcypress) trees follow a channel, growing half in the water. The channel, with the trees, enters the reservoir at this point. One interspace further a wellspring marks the end of the array of trees. The Baldcypresses enter the reservoir at an obtuse angle and continue into the water, where these trees thrive. The small islands on which the Taxodium Distichums grow are allowed to slowly erode - leaving the trees to stand independently in the water.

The vermillion-brown (burnt sienna actually) autumn color is complemented by the long vermillion-red retaining wall, which borders the quay. The result which I had anticipated is now (autumn 2009) taking shape in a way that pleases me.

De Rietkampen is a new urban area of the Dutch town Ede - this urban land art project has been evolving since it was constructed sixteen years before this photograph was taken.

The land art project in Ede - urban oasis - was created between 1989 and 1993.
