Spijkenisse

The city of Spijkenisse near Rotterdam chose Lucien den Arend's design for construction 2.2.3D to be realized on an important intersection. The construction consists of two quarter circle segments assembled from hydraulically pressed steel shells, fifty centimeter diameter.

"Simple and brilliant
Horstink himself is most intrigued by the sculpture 2.2.3.D. Lucien den Arend. "That is the big pipe at the junction between the Green and Sportlaan Kruisweg. The idea is simple and so brilliant: if you stand in front of it, it is a loop. And if you drive or walk past it, is an arc. It is different from every angle. "

Simpel en briljant

Zelf is Horstink het meest gegrepen door het kunstwerk 2.2.3.D. van Lucien den Arend. “Dat is de grote buis bij de kruising tussen de Sportlaan en de Groene Kruisweg. Het idee is simpel en daardoor briljant: als je ervóór staat, is het een lus. En als je erlangs rijdt of loopt, is het een boog. Het is vanuit elke hoek weer anders.”

`Constructie 2.2.3D'

Opvallend detail bij de ingang van Woonboulevard Spijkenisse is het kunstwerk `Constructie 2.2.3D'. Het werd gemaakt door Lucien den Arend en al in 1985 aangekocht door de gemeente Spijkenisse. Plaatselijke geschiedenis die bewaard moest blijven, vond Brandie Roobol, initiatiefnemer van Woonboulevard Spijkenisse. "Iedereen in Spijkenisse kent `de boog'. Deze past prima bij de woonboulevard. Reden genoeg om dit kunstwerk te laten staan en in te passen in het ontwerp."
